Additionally, I will gladly explain why The Matrix Revolutions is kind of fucking awesome. (Note: may not work.)

I need more time to reply to Josh properly, but go ahead with this explanation. I've actually felt the need to watch that movie over again for awhile. I've suspected that it might have been somewhat good.

I'll come back with Revolutions later (and I also like Reloaded a lot) but for now I will say, just back from an IMAX Speed Racer that no one but my girlfriend wanted to go to, and they can all suck it because you are totally right about this movie woooo!!

Um, I think this is more or less totally false.

Except maybe the Shannon part, I don't know about that.

OK, so The Matrix Revolutions:

--has that excellent scene in the train station with the errant code and his family which is more succinctly thought-provoking than most of the long speeches of the series.
--is shorter than The Matrix Reloaded (which is also pretty awesome but, you know, long rave sequence in Zion and all that).
--takes Neo and Trinity onto the surface which I found beautiful.
--has a sequence by my estimation around 20-30 minutes long wherein thousands of robots fight thousands of humans (in robot suits) which is more or less something I had been waiting a good chunk of my life to see done up nice.

So, visually it's a stunning overload, during the action sequences of course, but at all times as well. The story walks the line somewhere between cliche and cheesy on the one hand, and classic on the other. The main actor is maybe mediocre, but Christina Ricci has this spunk and presence and amazing facial expressions. Mainly I just really enjoyed watching it. I never saw the original cartoon, but it felt kinda like watching other cartoons where sure it's predictable and there's lame bits that are probably there out of someone's sense of obligation (read: chimp), but it's still fun all the same.

On a random side note, this has got me thinking about Scooby Doo for some reason, which I think might be a high artwork of the 20th century. I don't know if I've talked to you about this before - a lot of this was inspired by Eben, so you might have caught parts of this rant from either of us. But anyway, the exacting repetition of every plot element week in and week out was lifted to some ultra meta level. Watching several episodes of that in a row is better than meditation - you develop a deep understanding of the cycles of life at a really pure level.

Oh, and this one time, the monster was chasing Shaggy and Scooby: the two protagonists were riding a horse, while the monster was driving a horse and cart. They come to this most natural of landscapes where the ground they are on abruptly drops at a 90 degree cliff face, followed by a large gap, followed by another 90 degree cliff where the land comes back up and continues on. Shaggy and Scooby see this in time, and with their more maneuverable form of transportation they are able to leap the precipice, landing on the other side. The monster, however, drives his ungainly cart right over the edge, falling into the chasm (and off the screen). Just a moment later though, he flies straight back up, shoots right, and continues the chase back on solid ground. How is this possible? It's simple - because there was a "boing" sound while he was off screen. I think that this understanding ranks up there with the discovery of perspective in painting.

He's not around for the next week or so, but maybe after that. Or maybe Zipcar? Or Zac?
